Acceptable Use Policy

Severnet provides hosting, I.T services, and colocation to a number of clients. We have a responsibility to protect our clients, and provide the best services we possibly can. These guidelines help us to ensure that those service levels are met.

Severnet agrees to provide services to the Subscriber subject to the following Acceptable Use Policy.

Spam/Commercial Advertising

Spamming, or the sending of unsolicited email, from any of our services or using an email address that is maintained by us is STRICTLY prohibited and will qualify your site for immediate deactivation with no refund. SeverNet will be the sole arbiter as to what constitutes a violation of this provision. Additionally claims investigated by us about spam from any of our users or users of theirs, will be fined and billed for such work. The fee for such an instance if you are found to be at fault is $1 per email sent and up to a $500 fine per incident.

Content

Customers are responsible for any and all content placed under their site, account, or machine. All of our services may only be used for lawful purposes only. Transmission, storage, or presentation of any material in violation of any Australian law is prohibited.

Severnet is not responsible for any claims resulting from the use of our service. This also counts for sites or machines that promote illegal activity, or content that may be damaging to our service levels, servers, or any other server on the Internet. This includes pirated software, hacker programs or archives, warez, copyrighted material that you do not have a right to distribute, and Adult/Pornography sites (excluding official online Adult stores).

Fraud

Use of our service to make fradulent offers, or to promote financial scams is expressly prohibited. Modifying network header information in an effort to deceive is prohibited. Attempting to impersonate another person is also prohibited.

Programs

We do not allow programs to be run continually in the background. This includes IRC Bots, IRC servers and bounce clients.

Server Abuse

Any attempts to cause harm, or undermine our servers is strictly prohibited. Any account that abuses resources and does not act immediately on us contacting the account holder will be deactivated, and no refund given. Please note, the SLA DOES NOT COUNT in this instance. For the purpose of this statement an account will be deemed to be abusing resources at a level set by us.

Attacks and Exploits

Any site or activity which affects the ability of other users to use our services will be deemed as an Attack on our resources. Interference with other accounts in this manner is prohibited. In the case of colocation, it is the account holder’s responsibility to ensure that their server is secure. Unauthorised entry to another account or server will result in immediate account termination.

Security

You are responsible for any misuse of your account, even if the activity was performed by an associate, or family member. Therefore, it is in your best interest to ensure that your account details are not released to others.

Refusal of Service

We reserve the right to refuse, cancel, or suspend service at our sole discretion.
